The UK based domestic violence charity Refuge have launched their latest campaign, Care or Control, to highlight the early warning signs of an abusive man. Twelve women die every week due to an abusive partner. Two are killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales and ten commit suicide. 90 per cent of all domestic violence incidents are witnessed by a child. Refuge provides women and children who are suffering from domestic violence with help, advice, support and a safe house if need be. They offer a range of services which increase women's choices and give them access to professional support whatever their situation. The Care or Control campaign encourages women to spot the early warning signs an abusive man will show and to ask themselves if their partner is caring or controlling.
'Your partner meets you every night after work without fail. He picks you up from friends' houses, girls' nights out, trips to the gym, even if it means not going out himself. He always has to know who you're speaking to, texting, emailing or even thinking about. He says he thinks about you constantly, that he has to know what you're doing - all of the time.'
'Your partner is charming, considerate and attentive to your every need. He's your ideal man - your life partner. You think he's wonderful and your friends think he's the perfect gentleman. He's the life and soul of the party but then out of the blue he switches from charm to rage.'

Cherie is a patron of the Women of the Future Awards which were founded four years ago by writer and entrepreneur Pinky Lilani and Caspian Publishing in order to recognise and celebrate high achieving women under 35,across diverse industries, who are inspirational in their professions. Ms Lilani explains: "This year we saw an exceptional selection of talented women nominated and so my sincere congratulations go out to each and every one of the winners."
The level of achievement from the finalists was stunning. Winners included the youngest and only female CEO of a City broker, Sam Smith of FinnCap, to the show-stealing leads Alexia Khadime and Dianne Pilkington from the smash-hit musical Wicked.
Holly Tucker, founder of Notonthehighstreet.com, won the award for Entrepreneurial Woman of the Future while Ruth Amos, a teenager who sells a stair mobility aid after developing it for a GCSE project, was given the Young Star award. The 19-year-old's StairSteady handrail is fitted at right angles to a wall and slides up and down banisters. It locks in place when pressure is applied, giving the elderly extra security when they move up or down steps.
Miss Amos, from Sheffield, and the other winners enjoyed celebrating their success at the black-tie dinner in Grosvenor Square,London. with Cherie and other supporters such as the Conservative leader David Cameron and Elizabeth Hurley
David Cameron made a speech at the event in which he said:
"I will not let the quest for equality die. Women are more likely to become MPs in Rwanda, Belarus, Burundi and the Seychelles than in the UK. Frankly, that's a disgrace. That is not progressive. And I will not let this problem rest until I've fixed it."
As the speaker David was seated next to Cherie which caused a great deal of sepculation and amusement in the press but when it comes to issues of womens equality and representation they actually have a great deal in common.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges chaired by Princess Badiya bint El Hassan of Jordan.
"They join a long list of incredible women that have been uncovered and supported by the Women of the Future Awards and are now playing a vital role in inspiring others to fulfil their own potential." said Pinky Lilani.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as Patron of Breast Cancer Care Cherie attended their annual fashion show recently which features both male and female models who are breast cancer sufferers.
Twenty three women and one man stepped out this year in front of a star-studded audience at the glittering Show at the Grosvenor House Hotel in order to demonstrate that it is possible to regain your confidence and look fantastic after a diagnosis. Guests at the event, which comprised both an afternoon and evening Show, were on their feet to show their support to all of the models on the runway.
The catwalk stars were transformed into stunning models wearing beautiful outfits by high-profile designers. Their hair was created by stylists from Sassoon Salons with make up from celebrity artist Arianne Poole and the team at Estée Lauder. This unique and glamorous event was hosted by Andrea McLean in the afternoon and Gail Porter in the evening.
Guests helped to raise a fantastic total of £400,000 for Breast Cancer Care which will enable the charity to continue providing its unique range of free services for anyone affected by breast cancer across the UK. A fast-paced auction included frantic bidding for a fantastic two week holiday for eight to Tobago in the Caribbean, a round of golf with Darren Clarke and a private dancing lesson with Strictly Come Dancing stars Darren & Lilia. Beverley Craven, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, entertained guests with a brilliant live set, including her smash hit 'Promise Me', before they moved on to the after-show party.
